On Thursday, August 21st, The Gaels Theater Guild headed to Utah to attend the Utah Shakespeare Festival. We had a fun-filled weekend while getting to experience the arts. When we got off the bus, we headed towards the Anes Theater and watched Ken Ludwig’s: Dear Jack, Dear Louise. The show was a fan favorite within the Gaels Theater Guild. Josephina Russo ‘26 says that, “Dear Jack, Dear Louise, was very special because of the fact it was based on a true story and that the cast is only made up of 2 people.” The show was based off of the love story of Ken Ludwig’s parents, which makes the story that much more meaningful.

Another fan favorite within the Guild was Steel Magnolias. This show is about womanhood and the life-long bonds created in a hair salon. In fall of 2023, the Guild had a staged production of Steel Magnolias, which made seeing it live very special to the Guild. As a Theater Guild, it is amazing to be able to witness live theater with our peers that share the same passion for the arts.

Lilia Atamian ‘28 stated, “the best part of Shakespeare festival was definitely bonding with my friends but also getting to see different plays and one acts in action and getting to see the different actors and actresses skills being put in place.” Friendships made through theater are often life-long connections. Rylin Kohl ‘28 says that the part that stood out to her the most was “getting to see all the talented actors and actresses do multiple shows.”

As a Guild, we are blessed to have been able to watch these performers and learn from them. We are very grateful for the Utah Shakespeare Festival!
